Tips and tricks

Here are a selection of tips, tricks and techniques which should educate and entice you to become even more style savvy.

Concealer

Lightly pat concealer with your fingertips on any blemishes, underneath and on your inner eye, and disguise any redness around your nostrils.

Foundation

Test your foundation colour along the jaw line in day light. It should blend in. If you can see it, it's too dark. Don't ever try to go darker because you will just end up looking like an uncomfortable tangerine.

Foundation should not coat the face. It acts to smooth out the skin tone and create a flawless appearance. The best thing about foundation is that it only needs to be applied on blotchy areas (around the nose, raised capillary veins).

Try: Bobbi Brown Foundation stick for winter / moisturising foundation for summer.

Bronzer

A stick cream bronzer works wonders on the temples and apples of the cheeks. Otherwise use a bronzer powder in place of blusher for a natural glow.

Powder

Use a powder puff to 'press' a yellow-based powder into the skin. The pressing action - rather than rubbing - sets your foundation and the yellow tones down redness. You may even like to leave a little under your eyes to catch any eyeshadow that might drop when you are applying your eye make up. Don't forget to sweep it away after with a powder brush.

Eyes

No time? Show off your eyes with a light base (try bone, shell or white shades) all over the lid from lashes to brow. Using an eyeshadow brush, line the eyes with a dark brown or grey shadow. Finish by coating the lashes with black mascara.

Brows

Brush the brows upward then sweep along the top for a perfect arch.

Lips

Try lining your lips after you've applied your lipstick for instant definition.
